A targeted traffic enforcement effort launched in late February by the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department has resulted in more than 920 traffic stops near the intersection of State Road 2 and U.S. 20.
Sheriff William Redman initiated the operation on February 24 following a rise in community complaints about speeding, crashes, and general roadway safety concerns.
Since then, deputies have issued over 260 citations and handed out more than 650 warnings. The initiative has also led to multiple criminal and felony arrests, the recovery of stolen property, the service of outstanding warrants, and responses to several vehicle crashes and fires.
“We know these problems aren’t solved in a day,” the department said in a statement. “But we are committed to keeping our roads and community safe.”
