Michigan lawmakers have few accomplishments in 2025

The Michigan Legislature is dealing with not only their failure to pass a budget, but also their slowest 6-month start in at least two decades.

Last week, the GOP-led House and Democrat-led Senate pointed fingers at each other as they failed to pass a budget by a deadline written into state law. Bridge Michigan reports that there’s more stalling in Lansing than just the state budget, with a total of just six bills being sent to the Governor’s desk so far this year.

The House Speaker says quality matters more than quantity, but the Senate Majority Leader calls that an excuse for obstructionism — and the disagreement is headed to court.

Michigan is currently dealing with the nation’s second-highest unemployment rate, lagging test scores for school kids, and issues with senior care.

The Democrats version of bipartisanship is for the Republicans to do exactly what the Dems want. The Republicans need to avoid cooperating with the Dems because their policies are basically 100% bad and would only make the problems worse.

Gridlock is a much better outcome than a slate of bad bills.
