The Indiana State Police have launched an investigation into a police pursuit that ended in a crash and left a suspect seriously injured in Michigan City.

It happened on Wednesday, July 9, when Michigan City officers were called to the 1200 block of Elston Street for a shots fired complaint. The suspect had already left the area by the time police arrived.

A short time later, an officer spotted the suspect’s vehicle near Broadway and Fairfield and attempted a traffic stop. According to preliminary reports, the suspect displayed a firearm and pointed it at the officer before speeding away, prompting a vehicle pursuit.

The chase ended when the suspect crashed into a garage at the intersection of South Roeske Avenue and Killdeer Avenue.

The driver was found seriously injured inside the vehicle. Paramedics responded to the scene, and the suspect was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a facility in Chicago for further treatment.
