A workplace dispute turned violent when a Michigan City man was shot during his break near 5th Street and Michigan Boulevard.
Police were called to the area just after 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, after reports of gunfire. Shortly afterward, dispatchers were informed that a shooting victim was being transported by private vehicle to Franciscan Hospital.
According to investigators, the 48-year-old victim was on break from his job at a nearby business when he became involved in an argument with a coworker. The confrontation escalated, resulting in the man being shot.
He was initially treated at Franciscan Hospital before being transferred to a South Bend hospital for further care. He remains in serious condition.
Michigan City Police detectives have taken over the investigation, which remains active.
