Niles Charter Township voters will again decide in November whether to allow marijuana businesses.
Leader Publications reports the “Committee Against Unlimited Pot Shops” gathered enough signatures for two ballot measures – one repealing a zoning amendment that permits marijuana establishments, and another banning them entirely.
Some residents and business owners say the proposals threaten millions in marijuana-related investments. Leader Publications reports that until the vote, the township’s original zoning rules – which exclude marijuana businesses – remain in place.
Oasis Wellness Center, which holds two conditional retail licenses in the township, is seeking a court order to stop the township from processing marijuana licenses under current rules.
A hearing is set for Friday, Aug. 15.
