New York man arrested in connection to violent LaPorte County home invasion

An Elmira, New York man has been arrested in connection with a violent home invasion that took place in LaPorte County.

It was back on Aug. 9 when police in Coolspring Township were called to a home in the 6000 west block of County Road 400 North, where Matthew Mayer, 48, allegedly forced his way inside and attacked a 63-year-old woman.

Several juveniles who were with Mayer reportedly intervened and stopped the assault.

The victim suffered upper-body injuries and was treated at the scene.

Mayer was taken to the LaPorte County Jail and charged with burglary resulting in bodily injury, battery, residential entry, and strangulation.

He’s being held on a $25,005 cash-only bond.
