Elkhart firefighters contain mobile home fire, Family and pets escape safely

Fire crews quickly brought a mobile home fire under control after flames were reported on the exterior of a residence in the 1400 block of Labor Day Lane.

The Elkhart Fire Department was called to the scene at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, and arrived to find active flames on the Alpha/Delta corner of the home. Four engines, one aerial truck, and additional support vehicles responded. Firefighters had the blaze under control about 20 minutes later.

The family inside, along with two dogs and two cats, evacuated safely. No injuries were reported.

Investigators believe the fire was accidental in origin. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
