Motorcyclist injured in early morning crash on Old U.S. 33

A South Bend man was hospitalized following a motorcycle crash early on Old U.S. 33.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 1 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, near the intersection of State Road 19. Investigators say a 2024 Kawasaki motorcycle, driven by the 30-year-old man, left the south side of the roadway and went into a ditch.

Pershing was thrown from the bike as it crossed a driveway and continued into the parking lot of a business at 28080 Old U.S. 33, where it struck a dumpster and came to rest.

He was transported by ambulance to Elkhart General Hospital with injuries to his right arm and leg. Deputies said he had been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

No other vehicles were involved, and no citations were issued.
