A man charged with murder appeared in court last week.

Michael Hawkins Jr. is accused of killing 50-year-old Anthony Null whose body was found in the St. Joseph River with a gunshot wound in July.

Null’s girlfriend reportedly told police that Hawkins threatened Null during an argument before shooting him and dragging his body to the river.

The Goshen News says a canoe was found with Null’s belongings inside as well as some of Hawkins’ things.

His jury trial is set for October 20.
