The South Bend Police Merit Board has voted unanimously to fire Officer Emanuel Garcia.
Garcia was convicted of two Level 6 felonies – domestic battery in the presence of a child under 16 and resisting law enforcement with a weapon.
Because of those convictions, he is no longer eligible to serve as an officer in Indiana. He was officially notified of his termination on Sep. 17 and had been on unpaid leave.
No back pay will be issued.
Garcia was sentenced to two years on each charge, with five days of jail credit. Both sentences were suspended for one year and 360 days.
