Suspect charged in South Bend apartment shooting

A South Bend man has been arrested and charged in connection with a weekend shooting at a local apartment complex.
Police say the incident happened around 9:45 p.m. Saturday, October 18, at The Jefferson Apartments in the 300 block of Rue Flambeau Street. Officers arrived to find a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Following an investigation by the South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit, 47-year-old Dontrell Jones was identified as the suspect.
On Monday, October 21, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office filed formal charges against Jones, including Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, Intimidation, Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun, and Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon.
Jones is currently being held at the St. Joseph County Jail.
