Michigan Lottery commissioner steps down to run for office

(95.3 MNC)

Michigan’s lottery commissioner has resigned, with her eye on a bigger job.

Suzanna Shkreli stepped down this week and announced that she intends to run for Michigan Secretary of State. The Detroit Free Press reports that she was appointed to run the state lottery on March 1 of last year.

Shkreli, a democrat from the Detroit suburb of Birmingham, is seeking the seat being vacated by the term-limited Jocelyn Benson.

Governor Whitmer named Joe Froelich, a high level executive at the Michigan Lottery, as acting commissioner on Monday.
