Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement is partnering with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance for the Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative this week.
From now through the 16th, troopers will speak with commercial motor vehicle drivers during roadside inspections and distribute educational materials from TAT, formerly Truckers Against Trafficking.
The initiative is taking place across North America, with efforts also scheduled in Canada and Mexico.
According to the United Nations, human trafficking involves exploiting people through force, fraud or deception for profit.
Officials say truck drivers are often in locations where trafficking can occur and play a critical role in reporting suspicious activity.
Statistics show more than forty percent of trafficking cases reported by truck drivers involve minors. For more information, click HERE.
