An Elkhart County woman died Sunday afternoon after her vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to the crash around 12 p.m. in the 24700 block of County Road 20. Investigators say a 2019 Jeep Cherokee, driven by 70-year-old Dana Beth Knapp of Elkhart, was traveling southeast when it veered off the south side of the road.
The vehicle first struck a mailbox before continuing into the front yard of a nearby home and colliding with a large tree. The Jeep then flipped onto its roof and came to rest facing southeast.
Knapp, who was wearing a seatbelt, was found unconscious at the scene and was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The crash remains under investigation.
