Dr. Brian Schmutzler, a physician and lifelong Indiana resident, has launched a campaign for the Indiana State Senate in District 11. The seat is currently held by Republican Sen. Linda Rogers.
Schmutzler, who describes himself as “Christian first, conservative second, Republican when the party reflects Christian conservative values,” said his campaign will center on three themes: faith, family and freedom. He said his religious beliefs inform his positions on individual liberty, parental rights and personal responsibility.
In announcing his candidacy, Schmutzler said he supports expanded parental control in education. While calling existing school choice policies a step forward, he said he favors broader eligibility for microschools, hybrid schooling and homeschooling models that direct state funding to families rather than institutions. Schmutzler noted he and his family participate in hybrid homeschooling.
Schmutzler said his campaign will focus on resisting what he characterized as excessive government debt, taxpayer burdens and regulatory mandates. He also criticized corporate practices he believes introduce harmful chemicals into food and consumer products.
A physician, Schmutzler said he supports reforms aimed at reducing the role of insurance companies in healthcare and improving access to medical services, particularly in rural communities. He described himself as a supporter of the “MAHA movement,” which advocates for direct-pay healthcare models.
Schmutzler also argued that elected officials should be more responsive to constituents, saying “freedom means honoring the will of voters.” He said certain lawmakers have “lost touch” with the priorities and concerns of Hoosiers and vowed to restore accountability in the State Senate.
“I’m not running to become a politician. I’m running to serve,” Schmutzler said.
