A man accused in a violent armed robbery on Monroe Street in Elkhart has been sentenced to 16 years in prison.
29-year-old Davontae White was sentenced following a plea agreement. White received 12 years for armed robbery, four years for battery with a deadly weapon, and eight years for unlawful possession of a firearm, with portions of the sentence suspended to probation.
The sentences combine for 16 years total.
The Goshen News says the charges stem from a September incident tied to a disputed eviction in the 1000 block of Monroe Street.
Court records say White struck the property owner in the head with a firearm and stole cell phones before fleeing.
The victim was hospitalized.
