UPDATE: The St. Joseph County Coroner’s Office has ruled the death at the Discount Tire store in Mishawaka an accident.

Curtiss Walker, 29, of Mishawaka died from an accidental gunshot wound to the head. Investigators say the shooting happened inside an office within the business.

Mishawaka Police say the incident occurred just before five o’clock Wednesday afternoon.

Employees and customers were inside the store at the time, but no one else was hurt.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances that led up to the gunfire.

ORIGINAL STORY: Mishawaka Police are investigating a deadly shooting at the Discount Tire store on Grape Road.

Police say one person has died.

The shooting happened just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, inside an office at the business and appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Employees and customers were inside the store at the time.

The circumstances that led to the gunfire have not been released.

At approximately 1702 hours today (5:02p) Mishawaka Police and Fire were dispatched to Discount Tire, 5615 Grape Road. We are investigating the death of a male. This occurred in a closed office, adjacent to the lobby of the business. This is an isolated incident, with no danger to the community.
