Indiana ranks 38th in the Healthy Living States Index, trailing neighbors like Illinois but outperforming Kentucky, as high healthcare spending of $11,071 per person in 2024 failed to significantly boost its 62.85-year life expectancy.
The study highlights a mismatch between investment and outcomes, noting that while Hoosiers show moderate interest in healthy dieting, the state struggles with poor air quality and a 16.8% excessive drinking rate in 2023.
