South Bend officers recognized for actions during snowy weather

The quick burst of snow on Friday morning, Feb. 6, was more than just an inconvenience for one South Bend woman.
Police say a woman using a wheelchair struggled to travel along South Michigan Street as snow made sidewalks and roads dangerous.
After a concerned passerby called South Bend Police Department, Officers Sienna Sears and Matthew Winter responded.
Officer Sears pushed the woman nearly a half-mile to her destination, staying in the street because sidewalks were impassable.
Officer Winter followed closely in his patrol car to keep them safe.
The officers didn’t seek recognition-but a nearby worker saw what happened and sent a thank-you note to the chief’s office.
