A Nappanee man charged with trying to murder his own mother is still awaiting key psychiatric evaluations.
21-year-old Christopher Hochstetler faces attempted murder and attempted arson charges after allegedly trying to set his home on fire in November.
Two doctors were assigned to evaluate him in December. The Goshen News says the court has received a competency report from one doctor, but a sanity evaluation is still missing, and the second doctor has not submitted any report.
The judge says the case cannot move forward until both are complete. Police say Hochstetler admitted trying to burn the house because he “did not like his mom.”
The trial has been pushed to May, with a status hearing set for April.
