Animal control services funding under negotiation in St. Joseph County

(Photo supplied/Humane Society Of St. Joseph County)
St. Joseph County and the Humane Society are working out funding for animal control. The Humane Society is asking for $1.3 million, more than twice what it got last year.
The county approved only a 3% increase, raising its contribution to about $619,000.
The Humane Society says the difference makes it hard to maintain services and make needed improvements. A contract is in place through March while talks continue.
If they don’t reach an agreement, the county police would take over animal control.
