A South Bend woman has been sentenced for unlawfully passing a stopped school bus and nearly striking two children in St. Joseph County last year.

On February 24, 2026, 25-year-old Shau Ri Sparkle Rae Rose was sentenced in connection with a March 18, 2025 incident on Ash Road. Authorities say she passed a school bus that was stopped to pick up students and narrowly missed two juveniles.

A jury found Rose guilty on January 9 of two counts of Criminal Recklessness.

During sentencing, the mother of the children addressed the court, describing the emotional impact the incident had on her family.

Judge Hurley sentenced Rose to 18 months on each count, to be served consecutively, for a total of three years. The sentence includes 60 days in the St. Joseph County Jail, with the remaining 34 months suspended to probation. Rose must also complete 50 hours of community service, and her driver’s license will be suspended for one year.
