Man killed in crash at SR 2 and Pear Road identified

A 37-year-old St. Joseph County man killed in a two-vehicle crash on State Road 2 has been identified.

Officers with the St. Joseph County Police Department were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26, to the westbound lanes of State Road 2 near Pear Road for a report of a crash.

When officers determined that one of the drivers had died as a result of the collision, the St. Joseph County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) was activated, in accordance with department protocol.

Preliminary reports indicate an SUV was traveling westbound on State Road 2 when a passenger vehicle pulled out of a driveway into its path. The two vehicles then collided.

The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

The driver of the passenger vehicle, identified as 37-year-old Jeremy Richards of St. Joseph County, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team.
