A 32-year-old man is facing drunk driving charges after crashing into two parked vehicles and a garage near Rolling Prairie.
The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the 5100 block of North 600 East, according to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office.
Police say Kyle Barnes allegedly struck two pickup trucks in a driveway before crashing into an attached garage, where 65-year-old Brenda Depoy was inside smoking a cigarette at the time. Depoy was standing off to the side when the vehicle burst through the overhead garage door, missing her by only a few feet.
David Depoy, 67, said he was inside the home when he heard the impact. Bricks from the exterior of the garage were scattered inside and outside the structure, and part of the wall was bowed from the force of the crash.
Barnes is charged with misdemeanor operating while intoxicated. Police say his blood alcohol content was measured at .19 percent — more than twice the legal limit.
Investigators say Barnes admitted to consuming four whiskey drinks in about an hour before the crash. He also received a summons for failing to provide proof of insurance.
No serious injuries were reported.
