The Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) conducted more than 6,400 commercial motor vehicle inspections during the first six weeks of 2026, removing hundreds of unsafe drivers and vehicles from Indiana roadways.

According to state police, from January 1 through February 14, CVED troopers completed 6,455 commercial motor vehicle inspections across Indiana.

As a result of those inspections:

653 drivers were placed out of service

752 vehicles were taken out of service

49 oversize violations were cited

278 overweight violations were issued

The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division is responsible for enforcing both state and federal regulations on commercial motor vehicles. That includes conducting safety inspections, new entrant safety audits, and compliance reviews to ensure drivers and companies follow equipment standards and hours-of-service rules.

In addition, CVED enforces Indiana’s size and weight laws, ensures carriers are properly registered, and verifies that companies are paying required fuel taxes. Troopers also assist with post-crash inspections involving commercial vehicles and oversee Indiana’s annual school bus inspection program.

State police say the inspections are part of ongoing efforts to improve roadway safety and ensure commercial carriers operate safely and legally throughout the state.
