Elkhart Police identify officers involved in Feb. 8 fatal shooting at High Dive Park

The Elkhart Police Department has released the names of two officers involved in a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred February 8 at High Dive Park.

According to the department, Patrolman Thomas Breneman and Patrolman Nicholas Ragsdale discharged their service weapons during the incident at the park, located at 500 East Beardsley Avenue.

Ragsdale has served with the Elkhart Police Department for more than three years, while Breneman has been with the department for over two years.

Officials say the names were released in accordance with city board requirements regarding officer-involved shootings.

Both officers were placed on administrative leave on February 8, consistent with department policy while the incident is investigated.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate the shooting, and authorities say the case remains active.
