A tornado that moved through the Union Lake area in Branch County on Friday left three people dead and at least 12 others injured, according to the Branch County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials say three of the injured were taken to the hospital. The conditions of the others have not been released.
Emergency crews were still working in the area Friday evening to assess damage and help those affected by the storm.
Authorities are asking residents to stay away from the impacted areas so first responders can continue rescue and recovery efforts.
People are also being urged to avoid damaged buildings, fallen trees, debris, and any downed power lines.
Officials warn additional severe weather could move through southwest Michigan overnight, and residents should stay alert for weather updates.
Power outages, road closures, and service interruptions are also possible as crews continue working in the area.
