Power crews continue working to restore electricity to hundreds of homes and businesses in the Three Rivers area after severe storms caused widespread damage Friday.

Indiana Michigan Power officials say most customers who lost power during the storms had service restored by 9 p.m. Saturday. However, about 520 customers remained without electricity due to extensive storm damage and areas that crews were unable to reach earlier in the day.

Utility crews worked throughout Saturday to repair damaged equipment and restore service to neighborhoods and businesses impacted by the storm. Company officials say the destruction in parts of the community highlights the challenges residents are facing as recovery efforts continue.

I&M says crews will keep working overnight and into Sunday to restore remaining outages. Officials expect that customers who can safely receive power should have service restored by Sunday. Updated restoration times for remaining outages are expected to be posted Sunday morning.

Residents whose homes have damage to the electrical service entrance may need repairs from a licensed electrician before power can be restored.

Utility officials are also urging the public to avoid areas where restoration work is underway and not to bypass safety barriers or approach utility crews and equipment.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated on outages through the Indiana Michigan Power mobile app or by signing up for text and email alerts.

Officials are also reminding residents to stay clear of downed power lines, watch for falling tree limbs due to saturated ground, treat non-working traffic lights as four-way stops, and follow safety guidelines when using generators.

Emergency and cleanup efforts across the region continue as communities recover from Friday’s severe weather.
