A man accused of sexually assaulting a family member when he was a teenager has been sentenced in Elkhart County Superior Court.
Armando Marquez pleaded guilty to rape when the victim is mentally disabled or deficient, a Level 3 felony.
The Goshen News says the case came to light in November after the 9-year-old victim told school staff Marquez had touched her inappropriately.
Investigators say the girl reported the abuse happened several times and that Marquez bribed her with toys to remove her clothes.
Court documents say Marquez admitted the incidents occurred but said he stopped because he knew it was wrong. A judge sentenced him to 16 years, with eight years to be served on probation.
