The Environmental Protection Agency is investigating potential groundwater contamination at three locations in Elkhart.
According to WNDU, the sites include the Main Street Well Field Vapor Intrusion Area of Investigation, the Walter Piano Vapor Intrusion Site, and the Lusher Street Vapor Intrusion Area.
Residents can check whether their properties may be affected by entering their address on the EPA’s website.
The agency is offering assistance, including indoor air testing and installation of vapor mitigation systems for qualifying homes and businesses.
In addition, the EPA announced it will conduct five-year reviews at 50 sites across Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan, including the Himco Dump Site in Elkhart County.
Officials say the reviews are critical to ensure previous cleanup efforts remain effective.
