A weekend traffic enforcement blitz along major Northwest Indiana highways resulted in multiple arrests and dozens of citations, according to the Indiana State Police.
Troopers from the Lowell Post conducted the targeted operation along the I-80/94 corridor in Lake County and I-65 in Lake and Jasper counties. The effort focused on reducing impaired and dangerous driving during overnight hours.
During the enforcement period, troopers made 20 arrests, including seven for operating while intoxicated. Officers also cited 10 drivers for reckless driving.
In addition, police issued 85 traffic tickets and 58 warnings. Troopers responded to 17 service calls and investigated four crashes.
Indiana State Police say the initiative was aimed at improving safety along two of the state’s busiest interstates by targeting impaired and aggressive drivers.
Lowell Post District Commander Lt. Terrance Weems praised troopers for their work, saying their efforts help reduce preventable crashes and improve safety for motorists.
