Nappanee woman sentenced for stealing $79,000 from elderly

A Nappanee woman has been sentenced to nearly two years in federal prison for stealing $79,000 from elderly Hoosiers.

Brenda Walters, a bookkeeper for a local guardianship nonprofit, used money from incapacitated clients to fund vacations and parties.

Federal prosecutors say Walters falsified bank statements for nearly a year to cover up the theft before being caught by the FBI.
