Three injured, one critically, in Elkhart shooting

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is investigating a shooting that left three people injured, including one person in critical condition.

According to authorities, the incident happened around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, near the intersection of South 2nd Street and West High Street. An officer with the Elkhart Police Department reported hearing gunfire while on patrol and alerted dispatch.

Officers and emergency crews responded to the area and found a 20-year-old man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound near an alleyway. Police administered life-saving measures at the scene before medics with the Elkhart City Fire Department transported him to a hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

While officers were still on scene, two additional male victims, ages 22 and 21, arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds. Their injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The homicide unit was activated and is leading the investigation. No arrests have been made, and the case remains active.
