The LaPorte City Council voted unanimously Monday night to approve plans for a second Microsoft data center in LaPorte.

The new facility will be located south of Boyd Boulevard, extending along State Road 35 to County Road 250 in Pleasant Township.

Construction is already underway on Microsoft’s first LaPorte data center near Boyd Boulevard and East Lincolnway.

City leaders said the second campus is expected to bring additional economic growth and construction jobs to the area.

Officials also said Microsoft has worked with nearby residents to address concerns about the project, including environmental and water resource impacts.

The city has not yet released a timeline for completion of the second data center campus.

“City leaders said the second campus is expected to bring additional economic growth and construction jobs to the area.”

None of it lasting or going to the residents of LaPorte, but they neglect to mention that little fact when they pass these things.
