A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Elkhart County that left one woman dead.

Elkhart County Prosecutor Vicki Becker confirmed that Aaron Michael Williams, 41, was arrested and booked into the Elkhart County Jail on a murder charge related to the shooting.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a welfare check around 2:50 a.m. on Sunday, May 24, in the 30000 block of County Road 18.

When deputies arrived, they found an adult woman unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit secured the scene and launched an investigation into the shooting.

Becker said formal charges are expected to be filed early this week. An initial hearing for Williams is scheduled for May 28.
