Woman found dead from gunshot wound on C.R. 18

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is investigating after a woman was found dead early Sunday morning in Elkhart.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 2:50 a.m. May 24 to a welfare check in the 30000 block of County Road 18.

When deputies arrived, they discovered an adult woman unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound. The woman was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities secured the area and requested assistance from the Elkhart County Homicide Unit, which is now leading the investigation.

No additional information, including the identity of the victim or possible suspects, has been released.
