Train crashes into stolen car in Mishawaka, several crossings blocked

A train that blocked several railroad crossings in Mishawaka after striking a stolen vehicle has cleared the area, and the situation has been resolved.

Authorities say a Canadian National Railroad train struck a vehicle that had been left parked and unoccupied on the tracks near the McKinley Avenue crossing around 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 30.

The vehicle was later determined to have been reported stolen out of South Bend.

The incident caused the temporary closure of several crossings, including McKinley Avenue, Jefferson Boulevard and Division Street, while railroad officials investigated and inspected the tracks for possible damage.

No injuries were reported.

Canadian National Railroad crews inspected the area and determined it was safe to resume train operations.
