A man with a prior child molestation conviction has been sentenced to 50 years in prison in Elkhart County. 

34-year-old Mario Alberto Gutierrez pleaded guilty to child molestation and voyeurism charges tied to years of abuse beginning in 2014.

During sentencing, the victim described living in fear from a young age and said the abuse left lasting emotional trauma.

The Goshen News says the victim’s mother urged the court to impose a lengthy sentence, noting Gutierrez was already on parole for a previous offense when the crimes occurred.

A judge called Gutierrez a danger to children and sentenced him to a total of 50 years.
