As dangerously hot temperatures and high heat index values impact much of the Midwest, Indiana Michigan Power is taking steps to help protect customers during the heat wave.

The utility announced it will temporarily suspend power disconnections for nonpayment across its service area on Wednesday, June 10. The company said it will continue monitoring weather conditions and may extend the moratorium if extreme heat persists.

I&M is also reminding customers that utility crews working outdoors are facing the same challenging conditions. The company said employees may be seen taking scheduled breaks or sitting in trucks to stay hydrated and avoid heat-related illnesses.

Officials said those precautions are necessary to ensure crews can continue safely providing reliable electric service to homes and businesses throughout the region.
