An Elkhart murder case is moving forward despite the defendant refusing to appear in court for a fourth straight time.

20-year-old Christopher Yotter is charged in the April 2025 murder of Douglas Morgan in downtown Elkhart.

Yotter’s attorney says there is evidence to explore an insanity defense, despite previous evaluations finding him competent to stand trial.

The Goshen News says a judge has now ordered two doctors to conduct insanity evaluations.

Yotter’s jury trial remains scheduled for October 19, with a status hearing set for September.
