Gymtown Food Bank in Elkhart County is providing food to families who lost groceries after last week’s storms caused extended power outages.
Volunteers spent Monday packing nearly 250 boxes with produce, canned goods and other items.
Executive Director Scott Griffey said many families lost food stored in their refrigerators and freezers while also missing work because of the outages.
Gymtown officials said they began organizing the effort after hearing from residents and county emergency management about the need for assistance.
