A Middlebury man has been cited after a crash involving a horse-drawn buggy in Elkhart County turned fatal.
The crash happened Thursday afternoon, July 2, on State Road 13, north of County Road 34.
Investigators say the 45-year-old man was driving south when he came upon the buggy and was unable to stop in time. The driver reportedly tried to avoid the buggy, but an oncoming vehicle prevented him from moving into the northbound lane.
The buggy was struck, and 27-year-old Lyle Nisley suffered severe head injuries. He was airlifted to Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
The Middlebury man was cited for improper passing.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate.

Another driver in a big butt monster puck-em-up truck drives like a maniac. Who could have predicted this. It happens all the time especially if the big butt truck is dragging a trailer.
It’s a shame and an a
avoidable loss. I feel for the buggy drivers family. May God bless them during this horrible time.
