The Berrien County Parks Department is reminding farmers, greenhouse operators, golf courses and homeowners to register for its Clean Sweep pesticide disposal event.

The event is happening on July 22. The free program allows participants to safely dispose of herbicides, insecticides and other pesticides that cannot be thrown away with regular trash.

The event will be held at the Berrien County Road Department facility in Benton Harbor. Registration is required so organizers can plan for the types and quantities of chemicals being dropped off.

Since the program began, WSJM says about 350,000 pounds of pesticides have been safely collected.
