A major riverfront redevelopment effort is getting underway in Benton Harbor.
City leaders are partnering with the University of Notre Dame, the Southwest Michigan Planning Commission and Cornerstone Alliance on a long-term plan to improve the Riverview Drive corridor and surrounding downtown area.
The project is backed by a $22 million federal BUILD grant and will focus on infrastructure improvements, better waterfront access and creating a more pedestrian-friendly environment.
Residents are being encouraged to help shape the plan during a series of public listening sessions, beginning August 5.
