Samsung takes full control over battery plant under construction

Samsung
Samsung is taking full control of the massive battery plant under construction near New Carlisle.
The company is acquiring General Motors’ stake in the 3-and-a-half-billion-dollar project in St. Joseph County.
G-M and Samsung originally announced plans in 2023 to jointly build electric vehicle batteries at the site, but construction was paused earlier this year.
Samsung now plans to make the facility its first independently operated battery production plant in North America.
Once construction is completed, the company says the plant will initially produce batteries for energy storage systems, with production potentially expanding to battery cells developed with G-M.
