Four Republican members of the St. Joseph County Council are proposing a ban on new hyperscale data centers.
Joe Thomas, Amy Drake, Randy Figg and Andy Rutten filed a resolution directing the Area Plan Commission to amend the county’s zoning ordinance.
The measure is also supported by Republican council candidate Jamie O’Brien.
A council vote is scheduled for late September.

We should not ban anything. That’s not to say we should not regulate it. With proper regulation the impact on the county will be negligible. The Chinese Communist are behind the push for communities in the U.S. to ban data centers. Follow the money.
Not really. It’s just that most of the pro-data center talking points are abject lies. They create very few permanent jobs, practically none of the jobs go to the local workers, water and electric prices will increase, and noise pollution will increase. They are simply not worth the tax abatements being offered.
As an added bonus, when those abatements expire there will be giant unusable buildings all over the place.
