Elkhart Police responded Monday afternoon to a report of a possibly deceased man inside a parked vehicle at the Cracker Barrel restaurant on Northpointe Drive.

The Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received the call at about 1:15 p.m. August 31, reporting that a man was inside a locked Ford F-350 parked at the Cracker Barrel restaurant at 110 Northpointe Drive.

Officers and first responders arrived and confirmed that the 60-year-old man was deceased.

According to police, the vehicle had been parked in the restaurant’s parking lot for more than a week. The business contacted the transportation company that owned the truck, which led to the discovery and subsequent 911 call.

An Elkhart Police supervisor contacted the Elkhart County Homicide Unit to make investigators aware of the situation. However, police say there is no indication of foul play, and the Homicide Unit is not investigating the death.

The Elkhart County Coroner’s Office was notified and will handle the death investigation.

Police released the information Monday in response to incomplete and incorrect reports circulating on social media.
