People living in Indianapolis say they’ve seen more Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity across the city over the past week and a half.

One incident happened in Lawrence earlier this week. A man wanted on a felony warrant in Texas ran from ICE agents and barricaded himself inside a building.

Lawrence police were called in to help. Video from the scene shows officers breaking a window and sending a police K-9 inside before the man was taken into custody.

Other enforcement activity has been reported along Post Road. Video circulating online appears to show ICE agents chasing a man across lanes of traffic before taking him into custody.

There have also been reports of ICE agents pulling over work trucks.

Senator Jim Banks says the increased enforcement is what voters asked for.

“I think it’s going to come on all of us leaders to support the mission of our federal law enforcement,” Banks said. “They’re doing their job, and they’re doing it very well.”

Banks says he believes the enforcement effort is good for Indiana.

“In Indiana, that’s good for the Hoosier state,” Banks said.

Critics, however, have questioned the scope of the enforcement operations and whether widespread immigration enforcement is the right approach.
