The Indiana State Police is recognizing National Forensic Science Week, which runs through Sept. 26.

The annual observance highlights the role forensic science plays in criminal investigations, including helping clear innocent people and identify suspects.

State Police say their four laboratories received 24,245 new cases for analysis in 2025. Crime scene investigators responded to 863 scenes statewide, while the Digital Forensic Unit completed 904 cases.

Polygraph examiners conducted 305 tests, and the Indiana CODIS program helped support 754 separate criminal investigations last year.
