Indiana’s gas tax holiday is getting another 30-day extension, and farmers are getting a new break on diesel.

Gov. Mike Braun announced Wednesday that the gas tax holiday will continue from Oct. 6 through Nov. 4.

The holiday suspends Indiana’s gas excise and gas usage taxes. That saves drivers about 60 cents a gallon.

The gas tax break has now been extended for seven straight months.

The new part this time is for farmers. Braun’s latest order also removes restrictions on dyed diesel, allowing farmers to use it for farm-related work.

Braun first suspended the gas taxes in April as gas prices rose following the conflict involving Iran. He later issued a new emergency order, pointing to the war between Russia and Ukraine and wildfires in Canada.

Braun says the tax holiday is meant to help people deal with high gas prices.

GasBuddy says most of Indiana is averaging less than $4 a gallon. As of Wednesday, the average was about $3.78 in Indianapolis, $3.79 in Evansville, $3.78 in Fort Wayne, $3.85 in Gary and $3.84 in South Bend.

The state has also continued reimbursing local governments for money they lose while the gas tax is suspended.

The latest reimbursement totaled nearly $139 million for July. About $46 million of that went to counties, cities and towns.
