A South Bend post office damaged by a fire in August could reopen by mid-October.
The fire broke out August 25 in the mail sorting area and was caused by a light fixture. It was quickly brought under control, but the building needed repairs.
The Postal Service says the repairs are nearly complete. In the meantime, operations have been moved to the post office on South Michigan Street.
Officials say the mail drop box removed from the damaged location will be replaced after the building reopens.
